While in Puerto Rico I decided to stay in Airbnb’s as opposed to hotels. Mainly because the hotel prices were much more expensive as opposed to the Airbnb’s I booked. This was my first time staying in an Airbnb, but I was willing to take the chance after reading good reviews of each location. While I was there I stayed in Aguada, on the west side of Puerto Rico. As well as Vieques, one of Puerto Rico’s smaller islands. I made sure to reserve the Airbnbs months in advance so I would catch great prices.
The Airbnb in Aguada– This was the first Airbnb I booked, and I could tell by the reviews that it was going to be a great one as this Airbnb is considered a Superhost. The host of “Seas the Day” as it’s named, sent us instructions in advance before we left for Puerto Rico. When we got there, there was a welcome basket and booklet with more detailed instructions and tips on how to enjoy the local area. The hosts made sure there was almost everything we might need from extra towels to beach supplies to entertain ourselves. They even had a yoga mat that I used more than once. It was very safe with gates to enter the grounds, and beach and pool area. It was also very peaceful, quiet, and smelled lovely, perfect for relaxing. I would absolutely rent this Airbnb again.
The Airbnb in Vieques– I forgot to take pictures of the entire Airbnb, but this one had two bedrooms, a bathroom, living room, kitchen, and washer and dryer in the kitchen. It also had a balcony as well as a great rooftop that’s pictured below. This one was less luxurious than the first Airbnb, but it was in the center of town with restaurants and grocery stores right across the street. It was also a very secure Airbnb as every entrance had a gate with key access only. I highly recommend you rent a car as soon as possible if you visit Vieques, because, like the mainland of Puerto Rico, you need a car to go everywhere. Although they do have Publicos, (taxis), they get very busy and the rental cars sell out fast. So make sure to get a rental car way in advance.
If you’ve never rented an Airbnb, I highly recommend it. Just be sure you read the reviews and description so you can get an idea of whether you’d feel comfortable staying there. Here are the links to the exact Airbnb’s I chose in Aguada and Vieques. I look forward to staying in the next Airbnb when I return to Puerto Rico, let me know your experience with Airbnb in the comments!-T.S.
