New Shoes!

shoes booties, fall fashion

I’m pretty sure I’ve spoken about this before but I have a very small foot. Size five in fact! Yes that’s right FIVE! And a size three in children shoes! Yes I know you’re giggling now, but think of the price difference. Not laughing now right? When I find a pair of shoes that are my size I usually always buy them on the spot, no matter the price. Most stores don’t carry my size or carry a very limited quantity, so I am 99% sure I won’t see them again anytime soon. Yesterday during an evening trip to the mall I was looking for an inexpensive pair of flats. Ask anyone that spends a lot of time in NYC, flats are your best friend! A new pair are a bit overdue, so I was in search of a new pair. I didn’t find what I was looking for because my go to for my small foot (Payless) didn’t have anything! Don’t think Payless has fashionable options? Think again! Its not the Payless of yesteryear, and thanks to their Christian Siriano collaboration more fashionable than ever! Again small feet don’t give you a chance to discriminate anyway! Plus if you are a true fashion lover you can style a $10 anything and make it look like $1000 bucks. After an unsuccessful trip to Payless I checked out Call It Spring. I hit the shoe jackpot and bought 2 pairs of shoes!

New Booties!

I really needed a pair of bottles without a heel! The booties I currently have (fashion week pics) are super cute but killers on my feet at the end of the day! So I was so glad when I found a block heel moto inspired pair at Call It Spring. I was also shocked that they had shoes in my size, as in the past this has not always been the case. The Nunalla booties was exactly what I was looking for. Its definitely comfortable due to the block heel that gives my short stature a lift without a steep angle. I practically like the metal accent detail on the heel that elevates the all black look. It also has a mix of textures that is subtle. They are basically the perfect pair of boots made for walking! The Nunalla was originally $74.99 but I paid $22.50 thanks to the current sale!

New flats!

To my surprise Call it Spring was also where I found a pair of flats. I couldn’t find a super causal pair, but came across a semi-casual pair of flats. At first I thought they were too formal but thanks to my shopping partner in crime (mother) saw the possibilities. The small heel is covered in sequins giving it a festive feel for a semi-casual event. The satin like fabric is perfect for after work events. While a bow pulls the timeless style shoe together. These are a pair that I won’t being wearing every single day but they are definitely going to be useful. I’m still looking for a new pair that can take on the everyday work of the NYC streets. The Desarro was originally $39.99 but thanks to the current sale they were $29.98. Classic and sparkly!

I’m always in a happy place when I buy new shoes, no matter the price! Do you have a hard time finding shoes like I do? If you do, wear do you find your shoes?!

A look at Warby Parker

Warby Parker

I’m a glasses girl, I’ve been wearing them since grade school thanks to my near sided eyes. Of course at first I didn’t embrace them, as teasing was one of my priorities as a kid. Although as I grew up, I learned to like them and made them part of my personal style. Glasses can help you complete a look, just like any other accessory. The options for spectacle wearers have grown thanks to fashionable options and trendy styles. One of the companies providing fashionable and affordable options is Warby Parker. The glasses Warby Parker creates not only include the latest trends but are soft on your wallet. Unlike other glasses suppliers which include a major middle man, Warby Parker designs and creates their glasses. This process allows them to supply glasses at a lower price and connect with consumers directly. Budget friendly and fashionable, what’s not to love?

Newest Styles

In September Warby Parker launched their Fall 2017 collection of eyeglasses and various sunglasses styles. The styles and colors found in this collection were inspired by leather-bound books like the ones you might find in a college library. With a focus on color blocking and mixed materials the collection comes in classic shapes with pops of color. Scroll through to see the newest styles and some of the colors.

Home-Try-on-Program

Remember when I mentioned Warby Parkers pocket friendly capabilities? Well not only are their glasses affordable, the Home-Try-On program allows you to take their frames for a test drive. Have you ever found yourself staring at the wall of glasses at your eye doctors office when it came time to choose a pair? Well the home try on program allows you to skip the hassle by letting you try up to 5 pairs of glasses at home. The free service includes a questionnaire that learns the shape of your face whether its narrow, medium or wide. Next it learns what shape glasses you prefer which include round, rectangular, square or cate eye. Then its time to chose your color preference be it bright, neutral, black, tortoise, crystal or two-tone colors. Materials come next with the options of acetate, metal or mixed materials. Lastly tell them when your last eye exam was and your questionnaire is finished. Your results are manifested into 5 choices, that you can change or edit.

The glasses chosen for me included the rectangular Upton in the color Rosewater, Cateye Louise in Elderflower Crystal, Leighty in River Stone Blue Fade, Chelsea in Violet Magnolia and the Simone in Tea Rose Fade. I liked the selections I was given, although I changed my color options. My package arrived with the glasses neatly divided and protected. Overall the fit of the glasses was perfect. All but one that was a bit big, stayed perfectly put on the bridge of my nose. The Fall 2017 collection is not part of the Home-Try-on Program but the options are just as timeless and fashionable.

Charitable Work

Warby Parker not only makes it easy for you to chose fashionable glasses on a great budget but they also give back. Through their partnership with VisionSpring they are able to provide glasses to impoverished men and women. By doing so they are able to go to work and provide for their families. Warby Parker also conducts eye exams and provides students with glasses, many who are receiving their first pair ever. Their program Pupils Project combines their charitability with other organizations and agencies including the Department of Education in NYC and the Department of Health in Baltimore. They also align their mission with the Ver Bien organization which helps provide glasses to the children of Mexico. In total they have reached over 50 countries with over three million glasses distributed. It is estimated that 2.5 billion people around the globe need glasses but simply can’t get their hands on a pair. While 624 million of that population can’t work or concentrate on their tasks due to this problem. Through their work War by Parker is providing a solution to this global issue.

Are you a glasses wearer also? Have you tried Warby Parker before? Let me know in the comments and on social media.

Tradeshow Findings

tradeshow post

If you’ve read my previous post working a trade show, you will know that recently I was able to attend the women’s tradeshows at the Jacob Javits Convention Center. During the show I came across great brands both new and seasoned. These brands were gracious enough to show me their great items and answer some questions. I visited Accessories the Show,  Accessories Circuit,  Fame, Moda and Intermezzo. Although the following brands showcased at Canvas and Accessories The Show.

Canvas

This pop up part of the tradeshow features apparel, accessories, and home items. It also showcases brands that sell beauty and gift items. This year twelve brands showcased their latest creations. While there I was intrigued by the most delicate and gorgeous headbands and hair accessories from the brand Mrs. President & Co. created by Angela Velayos. Angela is a super humble lady and has the most infectious laugh and smile. Her constant giggle as we chatted made me want to stay in her booth the entire show! Her story of creating Mrs. President & Co. is the ultimate encouragement story for entrepreneurs like myself. A simple thought as she put her child to sleep launched a business that continues to grow.

As a little girl Angela loved hair accessories and her favorite time of day was when her mom would put her hair up in a ponytail before going to school. This love of a great hair accessory inspired her one night as she put her son to bed. The name Mrs. President popped into her head and she ran with it. The memorable name and her intuition on what made a great head piece helped her create the brand. The memorable brand name and quality products that she created caught on quickly in the retail sphere. Within her launch year of 2011 Mrs. President & Co. was being sold in Bergdorf Goodman.

An array of clips, pins, barrettes, headbands and pony holders are part of Mrs. President & Co.’s current collection. Although these are no ordinary hair adornments, these beauties are 24 karat gold, silver, tortoise and mother of pearl infused. With the 24 karat pieces being hand crafted in her birth country of Brazil. Simplicity and overall beauty is what inspires Angela as she comes up with new designs. It can be seen throughout the current collection which consist of minimalistic and elegant designs. Angela not only thinks of how your hair will look when you put on one of her pieces but how it will blend with your outfit and jewelry.

Mrs. President & Co. has been featured in InStyle,  Cosmopolitan,  Allure and Glamour in their print magazine. While Vogue, ElleHarpers Bazaar and more have spotlighted the brand on their websites. The brand also has a great partnership with e-retailer Shopbop  that consist of multiple collaborations. A global commodity Mrs. President & Co. can be found in shops around the world including New York, Tokyo, Hamburg and Paris. But this bubbly entrepreneur has not yet reached her creatural peak as this coming winter of 2017 Mrs. President & Co. will be collaborating with mega-stylist Rachel Zoe on the namesakes website.

So what is next for Mrs. President & Co. ? At the suggestion of her original inspiration, her kids, jewelry might be on the horizon. Which I have no doubt will be just as big of a success as her hair accessories. Can I put my name on the list first? Sign me up!

Accessories the Show

Accessories the Show showcases the latest in fashion trends for women. It also highlights the newest creations in women’s accessories. While there I  came upon the fun brand Strung, owner Jenny talked to me a bit about the brand.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Strung is  a brand started by band members Jenny Mann and Tim Barbour in 2014. They were inspired when they realized how easily guitar strings can be wrapped into a bracelet. After selling a few at a concert in New Jersey they noticed that people could not get enough of their new creations. The bracelets were bigger hits than any band t-shirt they tried to sell. Each bracelet has a music related name and can be adorned with charms that are named after different songs. Great for men and women with a love of music these bracelets also can come in pairs perfect for gifting. Strung also sells an array of necklaces and beaded bracelets all with music or rock and roll details. After much demand from male fans the brand will be releasing an official men’s collection in September with a color theme of black, red and white. You can find Strung on their website, in boutiques and  in gift shops. I look forwards to seeing what is next for this music loving brand. Perhaps different genres?
