For the past few months I worked for Children’s Club, the leading tradeshow for children’s fashion in NY and Vegas. I’ve done so in the past and have written a post about what it is like to attend a show and the brands that were there. Read about that here! As part of a new section of my blog I will start writing about what it is like to work in the fashion industry. Today I will be talking about what it is like to prepare for and set up a tradeshow.
Before a tradeshow occurs there are months of preparation for an event that is only three days long. For every tradeshow there is a team behind it who guides every company that wishes to exhibit at the tradeshow. During my time working for Children’s Club my responsibilities include inputting contracts, chasing money and selecting pictures sent to us by the brands. These pictures would be put on social media, a slide show shown during the show and in the brand book that’s given out at the show. I also was in charge of interacting with the brands on Instagram.
The process of brands selecting a booth starts with the contract. Each brand is given a contract which gives them options on what type of booth they want, where they want to be located and who they don’t or do want to be located near. And lastly they have to sign the contract, something believe it or not some brands forget to do. Once this first step is taken a tradeshow manager or I can input the contract into the system which officially puts the brand into the tradeshow. After I’ve put in contracts and helped double-check all of them, it’s time to chase down money from brands who have yet to pay the full price of their booth.
Once we’ve collected all the money owed it’s time to floor plan. Something I helped with occasionally, but that is predominantly done by the rest of the team. Booth size, type of booth and the brands’ wishes are all taken into account, although you can’t please everyone and some brands will complain about their positioning and price. There are also the brands who pull out of the show or try to, without realizing they sign a legally binding contract. There are some sad excuses given when the brand has to explain why they are breaking the contract. Although life happens and family or legal issues has forced brands to legitimately back out.
After months of this detailed preparation the show dates are upon us. It’s time for all the brands and teams from UBM Fashion to make their way to the Jacob Javits Convention Center to set up and attend the show. Set up days can be hectic and they are longggg. They consists of most of the brands coming into the Javits all in one day and setting up the merchandise in their booths. At this point the actual booths are already up, and if the brand is satisfied with their booth they start to put in their merchandise. Operative word is IF, because most of the time set up day consist of all the UBM fashion crew (including me) being pulled in every which way with a million and one questions.
During these days my job predominantly consist of helping salesmen recheck that all of the more than 500booths have the correct signage. I also help collect samples from all the brands that have the opportunity to showcase their merchandise on mannequins. These are place in the front of the tradeshow entrance. This is basically a free ad for these brands, a great opportunity for them. At the end of each day the mannequins are dressed with the samples I or a salesman collected. I had never changed a mannequin until I worked at UBM! Those things can be uncooperative but look adorable once all dressed and arranged into a group of coordinated outfits.
Finally the opening day of the tradeshow begins and the Javits is full of vendors, wholesale buyers, press, fashion professionals, UBM staff and tradeshow workers. Aside from the actual tradeshows occurring there are also side events. Special speakers like fashion legend Iris Apfel and Accessories magazine editors hosted talks and Q&A’s this year. Children’s Club always hosts a fashion show with Petite Parade. Basically toddlers to teens strutting their miniature stuff on a catwalk. The three-day tradeshows wrap up, with hopefully many orders filled and sales made. Almost immediately preparation begins for the Vegas tradeshows.
In my next post I will talk about what it is like to attend the Women’s tradeshows. I came across some awesome brands and can’t wait to tell you about them. Let me know if you are interested in more of these job post. As I am thinking of making it apart of my blog thanks to my ever-changing career.
I love dressing for specific occasions. I’m a lover of history, and one of my favorite aspects of the past is the fact that people dressed for every occasion. Perhaps because it is so much easier for us to get our hands on the latest fashion that I appreciate how people kept up with the trends in the past. For example in the 18 and 19th centuries people of the upper class were accustomed to changing their outfits 3-4 times a day or more! Perhaps their was a day outfit for a stroll in the park and then a day dress to have tea with friends. If they went hunting or riding their outfit usually consisted of a tweed riding suit, hat and boots. Dinner time was an affair no matter who they were dining with. You can be sure ladies wore gowns and gloves while men looked polished in a tux or at the very least a dinner jacket.
So do I long for the days of corsets? Well not particularly, what I do love is people respected fashion and what it can do. They understood the way you look is the very first impression you give. So when their is an occasion like a holiday I always like to put on something that I wouldn’t wear everyday. Sure you can throw on a t-shirt and jeans, but why not punch it up a bit in a nice dress? Holidays and vacations are the days where you can wear that bright dress and actually have a reason for it!
For the Fourth of July, I do NOT like to look like the American flag. But I do love putting together a red, white and blue outfit. Now as a rule I normally pick one color and subtly add others. When you do this you are allowing the eye to ability to focus. Just think when you see a bright colorful pattern, you normally want to look everywhere to take it all in. But by focusing on one color and bringing in others softly your eyes cans adjust easily. For this outfit my main focal point was the red dress with an embossed animal scale like print. Touches of blue came in with the always Americana blue jean jacket and bright blue nails. While white tied in with a clutch, faux pearl bracelets and clear sunnies.

So what are you going to wear this Fourth of July? I hope I’ve inspired you to get festive with your outfit. Put something on that is going to make you feel extra beautiful even if it is casual! For more outfit inspo for this weekends festivities check out blogger friend Jerseyfashionista’s latest post!
As always I look forward to your comments here and on social media.
P.S. If you are into historical drama’s like I am particularly for the fashion, let me know! Although that is for an entirely new post.
Getting away for the summer is always a treat. Whether it’s a month long vacation or a weekend, it’s great to find hotels that accommodate your every need. The Hilton Short Hills, in Short Hills, NJ does this and more. I was invited to experience and learn about what this hotel has to offer by TravelingMom and She Buys Cars. The day was full of relaxation and travel education. With an ideal location close to NYC and across from Short Hills Mall there is plenty to see and do. The hotel offers shuttle service to the mall and has an on site rental car service. However there is no shortage of relaxing activities for adults to enjoy right in the Hilton Short Hills. While the whole family is bound to have fun as well.

You and your spouse can receive hair cuts, styling and waxing services. Looking forward to a massage instead? The Hilton Short Hills offers both single and couple massages. These brands are just a few that can be found conveniently at the Short Hills Mall across from the hotel.
We enjoyed a cooking demonstration of Scallop Avocado Toast with Peach Bourbon BBQ Sauce by the hotel’s Chef Richard Kennedy. I was excited to try this dish as I am a sea food enthusiast and it did not disappoint. A delicious salad previous to the seafood dish and an array of mini desserts completed this delectable meal. Chef Kennedy and the culinary team at the Hilton offer a live cooking and tasting series for guests. The delicious food prepared by Chef Kennedy is sustainably soured from local NJ farmers, a point in my book! Check out Chef Kennedy’s Youtube Channel for great recipes.
As always the creators of She Buys Cars, Kim Orlando and Scotty Reiss were full of travel tips and tricks. Here are some of the tips I learned and plan to add them to my future trip planning.
The Chase Sapphire Reserve card is one of the best travel cards to have.

And check out apps like LuggageFree, Jet Setter, and Get My Boat for easier travel and planning.
I so enjoyed my day at the Hilton Short Hills and plan to return. With a great location, extensive accommodations and services the Hilton Short Hills has plenty to offer. Have you ever been? I’m sure you’ll want to visit now!
Summer is here and we all want to feel healthy! Why not try out a new fitness class to start. Or better yet find a workout buddy and gym wherever you are in the world! That’s what the Fitmatch app does. I know by personal experience going to a class on your own can be less appealing than going with a friend. Who wants to struggle in a class without a friend who is feeling the burn just as bad as you are? NO ONE! The app’s 5 steps help customize the app to your liking, find a gym near you and match you to people based on the type of workout you like. You then can chat and finally meet up at a class with your new workout pal.
To learn more about this app bloggers and press were invited to a Raka Fitness class led by Fitmatch creator and celebrity trainer Ngo Okafor. The class was held on the rooftop of the Clay Health Club + Spa located near Union Square in downtown NYC. The class was set to a mix of reggae music which made it that much easier for me to get moving. To my rejoice we worked out in intervals with breaks in between. Cardio, strength training, and boxing is was what consisted of the class. By far my favorite part of the class were the boxing intervals and my least favorite, those planks and burpees! Each interval had a Raka twist adding intensity to each movement.
A cool down of stretches on yoga mats brought the class to an end. The class was followed by an array of healthy chicken wraps, fruit and protein shakes. I didn’t get a chance to stop by the spa and sauna, but plan to make my way back. As a person who doesn’t workout daily I did enjoy how strong my body felt after this class. Although the soreness was something I was not looking forward to, I still feel a difference in my body. Currently Raka is being held in NYC, but Ngo plans to expand his classes around the USA.
I’ve download the app have you? Let me know what workout class you go to and how you and your workout buddy did. I enjoyed the class and plan to return. Ngo’s classes are free and so is the app! So make sure to make your way to the his classes and download the app. There are no more excuses! FitMatch makes it possible to find a workout class anywhere in the world! With a new workout partner to support your workout journey, making it easier than ever.
I recently attended The Makeup Show NYC for the first time ever. Open to press, beauty and fashion professionals this two day trade show allows industry insiders to expand their careers. There were also seminars, business forums, hands on workshops and a career fair. I was excited to learn about new products, techniques and discover brands I was not familiar with. Not to be missed were some of my favorite brands such as NYX, Makeup Forever and last but certainly not least Kat Von D. Here is what I saw, learned and most importantly what I bought!
I was able to sit in on the ” Editorial with Minerals. Truths and Misconceptions ” seminar taught by Valerie Hernández Garcia of Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics. She created looks that were editorial ready. In both the fashion and beauty industry when a look is editorial this simply means its meant to be shot for a magazine, commercial, etc. Tips given included using stick glue (yes craft glue) to get eyebrows to form in your desired direction. This helps create a dramatic look and holds for a long period of time. This is a necessity when makeup artists work with models and are shooting long hours. Valerie also used the brands “Minerals in the Mist Recharge” spray to set the makeup. The “Recharge” scent is infused with a blend of ginger, mint, mineral nutrients and vitamins. The “Minerals in the Mist” spray comes in an additional three scents “Refresh” a mix of tangerine and grapefruit, “Relax” a blend of lavender and vanilla and “Restore” a grapefruit, lime and rosemary blend. The mineral makeup went onto the models face like a second skin. The mist not only sets the makeup but protects and hydrates your skin.
Youngblood Cosmetics was founded by Pauline Youngblood in 1996. Before creating Youngblood Cosmetics Pauline worked as a medical aesthetician where she helped patients who had severe skin damage. Many of the patients had traumatic damage due to cosmetic surgeries, acne, rosacea and more. The patients recovery took up to six months or more and they didn’t have many choices to help conceal their skin. Pauline noticed this dilemma and worked with chemists to create a line of makeup that could cover the harshest of scars. Not only was the line she created able to cover scars, it allowed the patients skin to heal and breath during the recovery period. It was not long until patients were using her products not only during recovery, but for everyday use.
Youngblood Cosmetics is influenced by California and its laid back lifestyle. Made specifically for sensitive skin, this cosmetics line includes eco-friendly and cruelty free ingredients. The minerals in Youngblood cosmetics include Malachite, Rhodolite, Hematite and Zincite. These finely ground minerals help protect your skins tissue and cells. Youngblood has won the “Best Foundation Award” from Beauty Launchpad and “Best Mineral Blush” from NewBeauty.
I also sat in on Artist of the Year award winner Jordan Liberty’s business forum ” Art and Influence”. Jordan is an L.A. based makeup artist, photographer and makeup educator. He has worked on TV, backstage at New York Fashion Week and on beauty campaigns around the world. Jordan can also be found on YouTube where his videos teach educational and professional makeup tutorials. Jordan gave career tips and spoke about his go to products. He also created a refreshed and clean look while using the new glossy eyelid trend. See the video below and watch him create the look.
Here is my haul!
Besides all the free beauty lessons learned and what I bought home I loved the body art at the show. Many makeup artists and agencies were creating out of this world looks. These works of art took hours! I also learned which makeup brands have worked with major TV shows and plays. The actors in the play “War Paint” based on the lives of makeup giants Helena Rubinstein and Elizabeth Arden had their makeup done by MAC. While the makeup brands that worked with the shows ” This is US”, “A Series of Unfortunate Events” and more were present at the Makeup Show.
I also loved the artwork by Moises Ramirez in the “Colors of Beauty ” art gallery. His artwork combines painting, photography, makeup artistry, illustration and drawing.
New Products: Some of which I was tempted to buy aka liquid lipsticks! Metallic in makeup are all the rage and high pigmented glitter in a rainbow range of colors was a hot item as well. Cozzete débuted Matte Infinite Eyeshadows which come in matte, crystal and velvets textures. While Sephora débuted the Pro Dimensional Highlighting Pallet. See pics below for more!
I loved attending the Makeup Show and gaining knowledge on the beauty industry. I definitely wish I could’ve been at two places at once to catch all the seminars. I look forward to next year’s show. Let me know in the comments and social media if you attended the makeup show in your town. The Makeup Show makes stops in Chicago, Las Vegas, Dallas, L.A. and Orlando. Stay tuned to my social media for pics. Until the next one!
All pictures and video are mine except for press pictures which were sent to me by the Public Relations department of The Makeup Show.
Concreteislandista was given this product for review by Beautypress and the participating brands. All opinions are my own and truthful.
Face mask are extremely popular currently in the beauty biz. With so many out on the market its fun finding ones that offer a special something. That’s what Double Dare OMG! 2 in 1 Detox Bubbling Mask kit has to offer. The 2 in 1 kit offers a detox bubbling mask and a Microfiber mask. Double Dare uses natural ingredients in their products so the ingredients used on your skin are gentle yet effective. Some of the ingredients include Methylpropanediol which helps your skin organically absorb natural nutrients. Also in the mask is glycerin a natural fat which restores your skin and defends against dryness. As well as Vitamin B3 which shrinks large pores and helps with uneven skin tone, lines and weak skin. The hydrolyzed collagen in the mask helps form new collagen with amino acids which help thicken skin and correct uneven skin tones. I am always a bit wary about what I put on my face as my skin is a bit sensitive, but always feel better knowing I’m using natural ingredients. I was excited to see how the mask worked and what the outcome was.
Step 1: Detox Bubbling Mask
One aspect I found interesting about this OMG! face mask was it can be applied on the face with or without makeup. Other masks I have tried require a washed face, meaning this mask has the power to remove your makeup. Although I applied it with a clean face. The mask was wet with the detoxifying ingredients, once you unfold it you place it on your face. You can instantly see gentle suds forming on the mask. The mask is cool to the touch and gently lies on your face. After adjusting the mouth, nose and eye openings I gently rubbed the mask to create more bubbles. Now these were not one or two little suds, these were big and numerous bubbles. To see the detoxification in action is something I’ve never experienced before. The bubbles not only work to detoxify your skin but cleanses and removes dead skin cells. The next step is to sit back and relax as you leave the mask on for 1-3 minutes. During this time the mask remained wet and cool. It did not dry or get stiff like other masks I’ve tried. Once again I loved the smell of these products. I left it on for a full 3 mins then it was time to remove it and wash my face off. After lightly drying my face as recommended I was ready for step 2.
Step 2: Microfiber Mask
The microfiber mask consist of nutrients, hydrolyzed collagen and plant-based stem cells. All of which work to give your skin and healthy young glow. Once again the microfiber mask was prewet with these ingredients. After applying and adjusting the mask it is recommended to wait 15-20 mins. Within this time period your skin is absorbing the nutrients, collagen and stem cells. Although I didn’t feel anything particularly different happening, the coolness of the mask was relaxing. After 20 mins I was ready to remove the mask. Once I removed it I had an urge to wash my face because there was remaining liquid on my face, do not do that! Instead I rubbed the rest of the excess into my face, as recommended. I even went into the package to scoop out what was left. I also rubbed it down my neck, a part of the body women forget about often. The result was as an extremely smooth, moisturized and great smelling face. There was a shiny glow to my face as well.
Hopefully I can put the video I made up but the storm on Friday has weaken my area’s WiFi. I will let you know when the video is up. Stay tuned to my Instagram for more pics on the mask.
Have you tried the OMG! 2 in 1 Detox Bubbling Mask? Let me know your thoughts in the comments and on social media!

List other bloggers that you nominate for the Sunshine Blogger Award
Create 11 questions for the bloggers that you nominate
Inform your nominees that they’ve been nominated
I love writing my blog not only for my personal reasons but because of your feedback. Reading your comments and seeing I’ve brought you education or covered an event you can’t get to always makes me feel accomplished. I’ve enjoyed the ride thus far and look forward to many more years of blogging. The following are the answers to the questions Amanda has prepared.
What is the story behind your blog’s name?
All my life I’ve lived in NJ, but was raised going into the city (NYC) on weekends for museums or just to spend the day. When I got into college I had to take classes in the city which cemented my love for NYC. Many people who know me can tell you I’m an NYC girl, I’m much more comfortable there than NJ. I’m not a huge fan of driving, but know the subway like the back of my hand. Due to my career I’ve also always worked in NYC. If you follow me on Instagram, you will also see a lot of NYC architecture, an aspect of the city I’ve always loved.
What is the most exciting thing you’ve ever done?
The most exciting thing I’ve ever done has been fly an airplane. I am working on getting my license although I still have a long way to go. It takes many hours to complete and it is an expensive sport. I have a dare devil streak and bungy jumping, sky diving and cage shark diving are still on my bucket list. I also have a love of speed, so a race around a track in an exotic car is also on the list. Read my recent post on The NYC Auto Show for more on my love of fast cars.
If you were on a deserted island and could only take 3 items with you, what would they be?
If I was on a deserted island and could only take 3 items with me they would be a portable closet with clothes in it, my cell phone with WiFi, and tablet.
How long have you been blogging for?
A year. I’ve been blogging one year as of this January.
What is your number one holy grail beauty product that you can’t live without?
BLACK LIQUID EYELINER! My makeup isn’t complete without liquid eyeliner. Its become part of my signature look when I do have makeup on.
If money wasn’t a factor, what would be your dream job?
I don’t know what my dream job would be but it would still be in fashion with a lot of international travel. I would love to be able to blog while traveling, that would also be a dream job.
If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
If I could have any superpower I would like to end the prejudice of people. Specifically the prejudice women all around the world and even in U.S. still face. It seems almost unbelievable that women still have to march for their rights in 2017. Its been proven that when countries educate, hire and elevate women the economy and society benefits from it. Imagine how excelled a country would be if there was no sexism and prejudice against women.
What inspires you most?
What inspires me most when writing my blog is music. Overall in life what inspires me is my goal in life to succeed. If you remind yourself of what you want at the end of the tunnel, the hardships you go through are worth it. I also find other strong, independent women extremely inspiring. We live in a world that still devalues us, so every time I see a woman succeed she is doing so against the odds. That is very inspiring and empowering.
What do you do for a living? If you’re a full time blogger how long did it take you to get there?
I work in the fashion industry. Its been a difficult few years in my career, but I love the industry. There are perks of course like freebies, industry discounts and entry into events. Although there have also been a lot of long nights, sore legs and learning how to deal with eccentric personalities in the work place. Still I have met great people and learned about many different aspects of the industry. My blog fits perfectly into my career so I’ve been able to use my blog within my industry.
What is your favorite vacation spot?
I don’t think I have a favorite vacation spot although one country does have a special place in my heart. Italy! Italian is one of the languages I speak and I fell in love with the country and plan to return. I’ve also been to Spain, the country of some of my ancestors which is a beautiful country and love as well. Overall I love to explore when I’m on vacation so I prefer traveling through ancient European countries rather than lay on a beach all day. If there are museums, monuments and other historical places that’s where I like to vacation.
Pictures of Spain (I have way to many to put them all!)
What is the weirdest thing you’ve ever eaten?
Speaking of Spain, the weirdest thing I ate was when I was vacationing there. Overall Europe has given me the best food I’ve ever eaten in my life. Although when I was in Spain we decided to try snail. All I have to say is I wasn’t a fan.
My Questions for the Nominees
Why did you start your blog/business?
What has been one of the most exciting things you’ve done with your blog/business?
What has blogging or your business taught you?
Do you have any guilty pleasures? Chocolate? A specific show? Etc.
If you could give your younger self advice what would it be?
What has been your favorite travel destination? If you haven’t been there yet what would it be.
What are some of your favorite topics to write about on your blog and why? Or what are some of your favorite aspects of your business?
When are you at your most happiest?
Are their any societal causes you are passionate about?
What is one fact about yourself that many people don’t know or only people close to you know?
Few know this about me but I that I love anything that induces adrenaline (legally and safely of course). If its dangerous, involves speed or heights I have already done it or it’s on my bucket list. That’s why I was excited to see all the speed monsters in this years New York International Auto Show. She Buys Cars hosted a girls night out giving ladies a chance to see and learn about the latest cars. And although I don’t know the specifics of cars, I appreciate beauty in any form. The time and effort it takes for the engineers and designers to create these machines is admirable. Here is what I learned on my first visit to the show and some of incredible rides.
She Buys Cars is a website founded by writer Scotty Reiss and creator of TravelingMom.com, Kim Orlando. Both women have miles under their hood from traveling for work and leisure. They created the website to help empower women with knowledge about their cars and the purchasing process. The website was also created to help connect women to the auto industry. Unlike past eras women currently make or influence 85% of auto purchases. The website covers all the important details needed when buying a car. Information on matinece, financing, road trips and the latest automobile news plus more can be found on the site. Although what I find extremely helpful are the car reviews posted by everyday women. See more here.
America’s first annual automobile show began in November of 1900. Madison Square Garden held 69 exhibitors with 160 automobiles. An estimated 48,000 spectators viewed the $589-$4000 cars. By the 11th year international car manufactures were introduced into the show with a 3 wheel German made car. By 1949 the first international car show began and featured manufactures like Rolls-Royce, Jaguar, Bentley and more. In 1959 the international car show featured cars from Asia for the first time. Japanese manufactures Toyota, Datsun and Prince were some of the first to be showcased. Over the years the show helped manufacturers introduce their latest and greatest to the public. While also giving car enthusiast, families and buyers a chance to see what was new in the automotive world.
Hyundai’s response to luxury competitors comes with the new brand, Genesis. The brand unveiled its new GV80 Concept SUV. Genesis currently only has three models out on the market the G80, G80 Sport and G90. This new model incorporates elegance, athleticism and advance technology into one car. Genesis designed the car with the environment and style in mind. The car features plug-in hydrogen fuel cell electric technology, furthering their expertise in eco-technology and the auto industry. The GV80 also offers Human Machine Interface which helps drivers control aspects of the car with an interactive touch controller.
The car also includes hand-writing recognition and allows each passenger the chance to experience the car individually. Passengers can view entertainment and have the ability to change their window view without disturbing the driver. Genius also took great detail in designing the interior of the GV80 Concept SUV. The interior includes leather on the seating, door panels and console. The car’s upper suede panel and trim details compliment the sleek and shimmering exterior. I instantly loved the car, especially the interior which colors of ash wood and dark gray enhance the luxurious feel of the car. Genisis plans to unroll technology that will allow owners the ability to control their car from a smartwatch app. I love the details of the Genesis GV80 and look forward to seeing the models they unveil in the future. It really is a brand that combines luxury, technology and the sport of racing into one car. Currently Genesis can be found in their Global Genesis locations in NJ, NY and PA dealers and starts at $41,400. Learn more about the brand here.
Mazda returned with the Mazda3 and its redesigned interior while the Mazda6 comes with six-speed manual transmission, push button starter, backup camera and more. Mazda also unveiled the 2017 Mazda CX-5, Mazda CX-9 SUV and Mazda MX-5 Miata RF. The CX-5 comes in sport, touring and grand touring variations, all with advanced technology features. Some of those features include voice command, remote keyless entry and automatic emergency notification. Features of the Mazda3 include Bose 9 speaker surround sound and technology that helps the engine perfectly match the drivers movements. The interiors of the cars include suede and leather seating as well as multimedia controls. These models also include Skyactiv technology, which helps shift the vehicles weight as it rounds corners. While I-Activsense technology uses radars and cameras to help drivers be more aware of their surroundings and alerts them of danger.
Mazda has also made efforts in the way it impacts the environment . They have the largest fuel efficiency compared to any other manufacturer according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Their advances in technology also include I-Eloop, which helps redistribute the energy that is lost when pushing the brakes. That energy is used in different parts of the car including audio, electrical and more. Learn more about Mazda here.
I also loved the newest Toyota Camry which had a sun roof and sleek lines. The Toyota Concept I is a car I look forward to as it will truly be a car of the future. The expectations include the car having the ability to communicate with its owner and know what is needed through light, sound and touch. Toyota.
I’m also interesting in seeing what the Lucid manufacturers come up with next. Lucid Motors, a Californian based company specializes in electric cars. Manufacturers unveiled the company’s very first car, the Lucid Air. Some specs include 1,000 horsepower, two trunks and back seats that recline at a 55 degree angle. Even more impressive, the car will have the ability to automatically upgrade itself through software in the car. Not to mention be equipped with autonomous technology, which gives the car the ability to drive itself.Lucid
I loved seeing all the innovation that is occuring in the automotive industry and learning about what’s to come. Girls night out was a blast and I especially love the Kate Spade purse I won at the event. I encourage everyone to go see the New York International Auto Show which runs trough the April 23rd at the Javits Center. Let me know if you’ve visited the show and what cars pumped your adrenaline. I for one am looking forward the next show.NY Auto Show
On a side note, but a bit relative to the topic. I recently watched Fate of the Furious, have you seen it? What are your thoughts? I love the franchise but had mixed feelings about this movie. What about you?

Don’t you love going to your local spa every week and getting a facial? How about every week getting a hair treatment? If you said yes you are #blessed, but if you said I don’t do that, than you know an at home treatment is your go to! With so many new masks and treatments on the market there is an endless supply of at home spa treatments. Double Dare has created simple OMG! 4 in 1 through 2 in 1 kits that help you get that spa treatment glow right at home. Made specially to be easy, intense, fast and simple their products only take a few steps to complete. These Optimized, Minimized and Grab & Go masks are perfect for the busy lady. I especially love the packaging which is portable, perfect for throwing into a suitcase or overnight bag.
OMG! 3 in 1 Kit Hair Repair System
This treatment consists of a shampoo, protein treatment and mask. In step one you rub in the Healing Natural Shampoo. The shampoo helps clarify your hair of any impurities, just think about all the pollution we encounter in the cities or just by going outside. Smog, smoke, dust, sweat and weird mystery smells! YUCK! The ingredients in the shampoo are 98.6% natural. They include organic extracts of coconut, lavender and rosemary leaf oil. These ingredients help pull out any excess oils and any bad impurities out of your hair. I applied it like any other shampoo, massaged it into my hair. I loved the relaxing SMELL of the shampoo. The smell of rosemary was strongest in my opinion and I absolutely loved it. I thought the amount of suds it produced was good enough to see it working. Although I think there should be a bit more product in the package for us girls who have a lot of hair.
The recovery treatment protein was next after I rinsed out the shampoo. The treatment has antioxidant fatty acids of Omega 3,6 and 7. It also includes Argan Oil and vitamin E which help nourish and protect your hair. The antioxidants in the treatment help fight against breakage in the hair follicle and protect the blood vessels in your scalp. While the Omegas help by thickening your hair. And of course Argan oil helps smooth and defend hair against frizz. While vitamin E repairs damaged tissue in your scalp and hair follicles. The treatment protein also helps produce naturally shiny hair. Once again the recovery treatment protein smelled amazing.
The last step was the Self-Warming Collagen + Kerstin Infused Mask Cap. This goes over the protein recovery protein treatment without rinsing. The mask’s technology helps infuse hair cuticles with the treatment. It also adds moisture to the cuticles of your hair. Once I put on the hair mask I felt a gentle warmth in my head, which felt very soothing. After leaving the cap on for the recommended 10 mins I was ready to rinse again. The result was soft and AMAZING smelling hair.
One package of OMG! 3 in 1 Hair Repair System can be found at Double Dare for only $8.00! But you can also stock up on the system when you buy 5 packets for $36.00 or 10 packets for $68.00.
Overall I enjoyed the OMG! 3 in 1 Kit Hair Repair system. I would however recommend more product in the packages for girls with a lot of curly or long hair. I would also recommend easier to open packages as I needed a scissor to open the packages even after ripping the perforated top. The kit left my hair feeling smooth and smelling great, which I loved and expected. I loved the self warming mask, which I have never heard of before but absolutely enjoyed. I think the self warming masks would be a product that many women whether in the salon or at home would enjoy. As we as a society are becoming more aware of the products we use and how it affects us and our environment, the fact that these products are made with 98.6% natural ingredients and come in slim packages is a plus.
Let me know if you’ve tried the OMG! masks or any Double Dare products. Would you try the hair 3 in 1 repair system?

Spring has arrived although it may not feel like it here on the north east coast. And with the change of seasons comes a need to try new fashion trends and beauty products. Professional makeup artist Kim Baker has unveiled her own line of beauty products just in time. Universal, classic and easy is what Glamazon Beauty brings to mind when you experience the line. With a wide color range women of all ethnicities can find shades that match their skin tone.
Kim Baker is not only a celebrity makeup artist, but a pioneer in the fashion industry as well. In her past life Kim was a straight size model and than became one of the first plus size models at Whilamenia . The time she spent in the hands of famous makeup artists like Fran Cooper, honed her love and understanding of beauty. What Kim came to understand after she left the modeling business was that receiving compliments on her beauty did not define her. Her acceptance of her herself was key to understanding how to enhance her natural beauty with makeup. She now knew how to make women feel beautiful by working with what was at her fingertips, natural beauty. Kim’s portfolio also includes working with famed makeup artists Bobbi Brown and on the sets of TV shows and movies. Past clients include singers Toni Braxton and John Legend. Tom Cruise, Dakota Fanning and the TV show “America’s Top Model” as well as many other celebrities have relied on Kim for her beauty expertise. The unveiling of Glamazon products is a gradual one as Kim does not want to overwhelm her consumers with to many products.
A lightweight formula is one of the most important details I look for when I’m picking a foundation. That is exactly what Glamazon’s Second Skin Liquid Foundation offers. The formula includes hyaluronic acid that help moisturize and soften the skin when applied. When Kim applied the foundation to my face I hardly felt it. As it rested on my skin it did not get cakey or to thick. It’s lightweight formula made me feel like I had no makeup on at all. There are 12 shades in universal colors ranging from dark like Chocolate Mousse to fair colors such as Porcelain Doll. Creating a wide range of foundation colors was an important part of the collection for Kim. As an Afro-Latina she has had problems finding the correct shade in make-up brands. She knew she needed to offer every skin color, so no one would be excluded. Glamazon Liquid foundations are available for $24.
Crème highlighters in the colors “Golden Goddess” and “Amber Lights” allows you to add the perfect amount of shine to your look for the same price. The “Blushing Beauties” blushes range in shades from pink to red. These shades were chosen specfcially by Kim as all four show well on both light and dark shin tones. Once again she concerned herself in assuring her products would work for everyone. “Paprika” and “Girls Love Wine “were two of my favorites, although at $16 how can you chose?
Kim also thought of the perfect base and finisher for her makeup line. The “Mystical Veil Face Primer” is a creamy formula that allows your makeup to lay smoothly. It’s light weight formula allows you to blend effortlessly and remain undetectable . The formula also hydrates and smooths your skin. With only 2-3 dots needed this $28 staple will last you months of beautifying. The “Perfect Pressed Powder” allows you to finish and protect your look. The formula is semi-translucent, which helps get rid of shine and absorb oil. This helps both people with oily prone skin and drier skin types. Caking won’t occur as the formula is lightweight. Shades such as “Havana” and “St.Tropez” are perfect for lighter skin tones while “Tahiti” and “Catalina” work for darker ones.
I was most excited about the line Hydro-Matte Liquid Lipsticks. I am a liquid lipstick lover and Glamazon is no exception. The formula has a perfect consistency allowing it to glide on not too thick or thin. I only needed to apply one coat for full coverage and was able to use the dole applicator for lining after applying a clear liner. I also love that the scent of the lipstick is a soft and slightly sweet vanilla. The scent also fades off quickly, something I appreciate as I am sensitive to scents. After being fully dried it survived a sandwich and dinner. What I loved about these liquid lipsticks were that they were COMFORTABLE! I also did the crazy faces challenge seeing if it would crack or hurt my lips and it passed the test. Once again Kim ensured the addition of moisturizing Hyaluronic acid for hydration. There was no cracking, peeling, flaking or sore lips as the day went on. Something that has happened to some of my other liquid lipsticks without a moisturizing base.
Vitamin E was also included in these liquid lipsticks. This powerful vitamin defends the skin from sun rays and acts as antioxidant against free radicals like pollution and loss of oxygen. It is also a anti-aging and anti-inflammatory vitamin. The lines Lipsticks in semi-matte and creamy finishes are also available in four classic shades of red, berry and neutral tones. Glamazon lip products are available for $17-$18. You can see Glamazon’s liquid lipstick in the color “Queen B” in this month’s “InTouch Weekly” magazine listed as Jessica Biel’s go to.
Eyes Have It
Glamazon currently has six universal eye shadows out. These highly pigmented and smooth eye shadows glide on effortlessly. The colors that range from light “Opal” to dark “Galaxy” are suitable for an everyday or special occasion look. The colors “Mikonos” and Opal which is my favorite give the eyes a pop of color without being to bright. The pink and reddish tones of these colors give them the ability to be worn anywhere. The “Lash Couture Lengthening Mascara” adds length simply with one swipe of the wand. The mascara’s formula holds up against clumping, smudging and flaking.
The Eye-Conic Eye Corrector covers discoloration with the use of yellow, green and peach color correctors. It’s resistant to creasing, humidity and sweat. The tube that Kim designed the concealer in has a clickable top that allows you to push out as little or as much concealer as you want. While the brush’s smooth bristles glide gently onto sensitive corners. The Eye-Conic Eye Concealed brightens your eyes and helps with hyper-pigmentation, an issue prone to darker skin. Brows are perfectly filled in with her brow filler in “Blondie” or “Chocolate”. They also work perfectly as a liner or eye shadow. The “Flawless Gel Liner Pen” has a precise pointed tip for rimming your eyes in a thin or thick cat eye. The gel base formula allows this liner 8 hours of stability. It’s no wonder that this rock star product received rave review from “Refinery 29” as one of the top 3 best selling products in leading beauty retailers.
Empowered beauty is Kim’s motto. Her love of beauty that began with the show “Dynasty” and doing her mother and friends makeup was an unquestionable sign of love and talent for beauty. With her 20 plus years in the fashion and beauty industry she figured out a way to bring that to all women. Glamazon is loved by fellow makeup artists, beauty bloggers like Patrick Star and supermodels like Cynthia Bailey. Here are some tips and answers from celebrity makeup artists Kim Baker.

The four years it took Kim to create “Glamazon” were spent wisely as the line is already a hit. I loved speaking with Kim Baker, who was so easy to talk to and a pleasure to work with. We created an “Azon” something consumers were encouraged to do as they created their own unique looks with “Glamazon” products at the Ricky’s NYC unveiling. My “azon’ was the “Latinazon”, of course as Demi Lovato on the cover of “Latina” magazine was Kim’s inspiration. Kim’s understanding of makeup and appreciation of natural beauty makes you feel confident and at ease in her chair. Speaking of which, Kim who does makeup classes at “Ricky’s” will reveal new class dates soon. Currently “Glamazon” is sold exclusively at the NYC staple Ricky’s NYC, but will be coming to a store near you. Look out for the unveiling of more “Glamazon” products and see more HERE. See Kim give me the Latinazon look below!
