Becoming Bonnie Book Review

Becoming Bonnie

Here is a tidbit about myself, one of my favorite era’s is the 1920’s. In fact one of my all time favorite authors is F. Scott Fitzgerald. I’ve read most of his books, and love them each time. Although I’ve always loved to read, during high school I think I would have apprenticed  having to read The Great Gatsby as opposed to Romeo and Juliet. I’m not a big Shakespeare fan! So when I started college I began to scope out F. Scott Fitzgerald books and short stories to read. His stories have a way of transporting you to the past with descriptions and vocabulary that induces a realness. Many times while reading his books I would stop and think, “how did he know how to describe it in that manner?”

So with my love of the 1920’s era and the master author that was F.Scott Fitzgerald its safe to say that anytime I see a book following the theme I will read it. It was no different when I saw the book Becoming Bonnie by Jenni L. Walsh. As you might have guessed through the title it is a fictional story about Bonnie of the infamous Bonnie and Clyde duo. With touches of facts thrown into the book, the story follows Bonnelyn as an innocent teen. Although due to a difficult financial situation, disappointing husband and growing into a woman, she slowly becomes the Bonnie we’ve all heard of.

Facts That Were Part of the Book:

  • Bonnie’s dad died when she was young
  • Bonnie had two siblings, Buster and Billie
  • Bonnie got married at 16
  • Her husband was not a good one
  • Both Bonnie and Clyde grew up very poor
  • Clyde’s siblings in the book, were real and so were the some of the crimes he committed
  • Bonnie really did snuggle a gun to Clyde while he was in jail
  • Bonnie’s best friend in the book, was a real life fellow member of the Barrow Gang…and more.

What I loved about the book:

It was quite interesting to see Bonnie and Clyde depicted from Bonnies point of view. Many times when this pair is depicted it is from the point of view of Clyde or both. You get to know Bonnie on her own, and learn what motivates her. Bonnie is depicted a smart, strong girl and women. The type of Bonnie you would want to be part of such an infamous duo. Without being too sappy, you could understand the deep love Bonnie and Clyde had for each other. And finally, like the U.S. economy at the time Bonnie’s life hits a crash and she learns how to deal with it.

I hope I didn’t give to much away about the book! I really enjoyed the book, and hope you read it! What type of books do you love?

Fashion Week

New York Fashion Week And Youtube

new york fashion week

New York Fashion Week recently ended and it was another whirlwind filled week. I’ve been putting up the fashion shows and events that I went to on my brand new YouTube channel. I opened a YouTube channel because that was the easiest way for me to get content out during the week. Usually during Fashion Week I get home around 1 or 2 in the morning with the need to be up the next morning to go to my next event. Each year since I was in college my participation in NYFW has grown exponentially. Including my position as Editorial Manager for Latinista.com, this leaves me no time to write! In comes Youtube with a quicker alternative to creating and distributing content. Check out my New York Fashion Week videos here!

As usual I wanted to share with you the outfits I wore during New York Fashion Week. Some are already up on my Instagram, while others due to my strapped time schedule during the hectic week had to be photographed at a later date. For this fashion week I decided to get a bit creative with the pieces I wore. The theme for my outfits was transforming pieces to give them a second life. I did however invest in coats in preparation for NYFW, because it becomes your most seen and potentially photographed piece. I only attended four days out of the week, taking one day to create my YouTube channel. New York Fashion Week is fun, exuberating, electric and exhausting! If I’ve learned anything since I started attending fashion week at 18 years old, is taking a day off is not the end of the world!

Life Lifestyle

Another Year Older

bday

Friday 2/2 was my birthday. I’m excited about what this new year of life will bring me. I had a simple day, as I’m not much for huge parties. I’d rather a one and a lifetime experience than a one night party. Although this time around I kept it very simple with some traditions. It is a family tradition since I was a child to make our way to Ihop for breakfast. If you don’t have an Ihop, you should know its one of the best places for pancakes! The next stop for me was the Windows store to buy myself  a new 2-in-1 Surface. My previous Surface tablet had lasted me around 9 years and was on its last leg. Now I had no problem picking out which computer I wanted as I did my homework and the Windows employees were very helpful. With all that being said I was in the Windows store way too long, because of Dell!

You see I had planned to pay a certain amount towards my new computer and finance the rest. This was not what happened as Dell refused to let me leave the store with my purchase. I don’t know why Windows has Dell as their financing company, but I can tell you it was not a pleasant experience trying to prove I was myself. They only use public records like an email. Which they kept on telling me was incorrect, which it wasn’t. My social security number or license number was not enough! In the end I was glad to have a back up solution and left the store with my computer setup and ready to use.

I had other plans to celebrate, but by the time we left Windows all we wanted to do was to eat! P.F. Changs was near by and since I had never been I was excited to see what it had to offer. I highly recommend you stop by and try the following:

Ahi Poke Bowl ( if you eat sushi, you’ll love this)

Handfolded Crab Wonton (creamy crab mix )

Crispy Honey Shrimp (Sweeter than regular coconut shrimp, but just as scrumptious)

Hokkien Street Noodles (Thin noodle dish with a bit of spice)

Banana Spring Roll (Caramel and banana goodness!)

Coconut Mojito (YUM)

All of it was delicious and the experience was great. P. F. Changs for the win!

bday

Now that I shared my day with you, I figure I’d share some facts about myself.

  • I’m a night owl (follow my Instastories for that)
  • I always wear rings
  • I hardly wear earrings as my ear lobes are extremely sensitive
  • I was raised by a single mom, there is no one stronger than a single mom
  • If I were not in fashion, I’d be in the art world
  • I have a size 5 foot, size 3 in kids
  • I drink a lot of  water! I try 1-3 bottles a day, I feel unbalanced without it
  • I’m very sensitive to smells. I love woodsy scents over floral ones
  • I love the physical act of writing something down. Planners, notebooks, stationary are my choice over digital reminders
  • I also love the physical feel of a book, as opposed to a digital version
  • I do a lot of my work while listening to music. I listen to almost everything from classical, country, rap and beyond. If the song has a great beat, melody or message I’ll listen. I’m in a Latin Trap moment right now, so that is dominating my Spotify account. If you have no idea what that is, Google Bad Bunny.
  • I hate rodents and anything that resembles them! (Insert your “than how can you do NYC” joke here)
  • I’ve had IBS, since I was in high school. It’s a intestinal condition that can be very painful. Although I learned to manage to control it early on by watching everything I eat.
  • House goals will always be a brownstone with an industrial interior. City girl at heart.

Took an OOTD pic, here are some behind the scene gems!
