Beauty Event

Glambition Beauty Night Out ’18

I love empowering events that help entrepreneurs and especially women entrepreneurs. That’s exactly what Glambition ’18 was! As one of the guest said to me what’s not to love when glam and ambition are combined? The event was held at the gorgeous Google NYC Headquarters in Chelsea. The day was full of powerful speakers and businesses with innovative products and services. The event started with delicious light refreshments and a chance to network with the beauty businesses there. Here is what else this great event had to offer!

Exhibitors and panel speakers included the following:

New York Life

The life insurance company educated the various age ranges at the event on this topic that many feel nervous about. The educational talk taught me among other things that you can start your life insurance savings at any age even at a few months after birth!

Vera Moore Cosmetics

With a background in acting Vera saw first hand the struggle makeup artists had in finding makeup that was suitable for people of color. With a new-found passion, she set out to create cosmetics that would not turn greasy, rub off or change colors when applied. Her years of experience have gained her many accolades not only in the beauty industry but in acting, publishing and business.

Jane Carter Solutions

Jane Carter herself was at the event along with her well-known line of hair products. Catering to women with curly hair her line has products for every type curl.

NY Beauty + Cosmetology Chamber of Commerce

Founders of the Cosmetology and Beauty Chamber of Commerce were also in attendance giving great business advice. The commerce offers education, guidance and create opportunities for those looking to grow in the cosmetology and beauty arena.

With a focus on health, wellness and beauty Salud offers all natural solutions to everyday needs. I was recently featured in a YouTube video for Salud and wrote a blog post on why I use their products. They were also showcasing a most delicious tea!

Glamazon Cosmetics

Created by model Kim Baker, Glamazon Cosmetics caters to all women who want coverage and color variety within their makeup. Originally a model for Whilimenia she like Vera Moore has full knowledge on the struggles women of color have with makeup. Glamazon Cosmetics liquid lipsticks are one of my go to’s as their longevity is reliable.

Celfie Cosmetics

Known for bold colors this NYC start-up had everyone saying ohh and ahh to their Matte and Glitter Palette. Another ingenious invention by Celfie? The lipstick with a light built-in and mirrored cap! And as one girl exclaimed “perfect for the club!”

Swisse– Australia based Swiss offers vitamins and supplements that are loved by Nicole Kidman and many stars alike. I’ve started taking their Blood Orange Hair, Skin and Nails dietary supplement. The drink contains only orange extract, Silica that promotes hair growth and Vitamin C which can help prevent sun damage to the skin.

Faces Beautiful This vegan makeup line showcased their Face in a Case magnetic makeup organizer. Not only does the case hold makeup but it doubles as a wallet and cell phone holder. Carrying makeup in a messy bag is longer necessary!

Model Citizen– A rental, lending and shopping platform that allows you to share your great fashion finds.

Cocotique-A deluxe subscription box curated for women of color.

Salud For the New Year

New to the beauty market is Salud (health) by Dr. Rigo. A health and wellness brand that includes all natural ingredient filled products.  Their goal is to provide all natural health and beauty solutions for all your wellness and beauty needs. From hair and skin health to digestive health, Salud has an all natural alternative for everyday products. Now I love trying anything new, especially if its health conscious because as a society we have become more aware about what we put in our bodies. If it’s important to you what you put in your body why not what you put on your body? If you’re leading an all natural lifestyle adding an all natural beauty routine is a no brainer! Here are some of the products I love from Salud.

Mabella Facial Cleansing Soap Bar

This has become my go to for washing my face in the morning to when I have take off makeup at night. I absolutely love the scent which is derived from the combination of the natural ingredients. A mixture of oils such as rosehip oil, yogurt made with goat milk and the popular beauty ingredient charcoal are what make up the facial bar.  Each ingredient has a specific natural remedy for skin irritations. Rosehip Oil contains vitamins, antioxidants and fatty acids that help lighten dark spots. The oil also helps reduce wrinkles and hydrate skin. Goats milk contains lactic acid which helps remove those dead skin cells that clog pores. While my favorite ingredient the activated charcoal pulls bacteria, dirt and toxins from your pores. It basically fights my skins arch-enemy, blackheads!

Mai Hair and Body Oil

If you’re looking for a natural way to style your hair and keep your skin smooth try they Mai Hair and Body Oil. This natural moisturizer combines RoseHip Oil, Organic Safflower, Hemp and Kukui Nut. All of which combined help with the hydration and protection of hair while stimulating natural growth. These natural ingredients are also great for curly hair like mine. Curly hair has a tendency to dry out, but the natural oils in the Mai Hair and Body oil fight brittle dry strands.

Maria Firming Cream

For an all natural solution to wrinkles why not source from your own skin. That is the idea behind the Maria Firming Cream. Made from Squalane, an unsaturated oil which is produced by our natural skin cells. Squalane is also found in olives, palm trees and other natural sources. COQ10 is the second and last ingredient  in the cream, known to be in many highly priced anti-aging creams.

2018 Goals

2018 goals

What are your 2018 goals? Don’t we all resolve to have new goals each New Years? Do you feel accomplished with the goals that you had for 2017? I can personally say when I make goals they have to be written down for the simple fact that I have a horrible memory. Between freelancing, blogging, editing and who knows what else I will have to do in 2018 I am bound to forget what my personal goals are! I can’t be the only person with this problem! Am I right? So here is a list of my 2018 goals.

  • Focus more on the blog! There have been so many tasks that I wanted to do for my blog that I could not complete in 2017. I have a list of to-dos for the blog that I’ve started to focus on. While doing so I’m reminded of how much work goes into a blog and a business. So if you are thinking of starting a blog, by all means start it. Just know that what you see successful bloggers gaining has come with a lot of hard work on their end.

  • Travel!! This has been a goal of mine that has increased throughout 2017. In particular it is my main goal to make it to Puerto Rico. With all that occurred in Puerto Rico in 2017 I feel a particular pull toward the island. Not only to help but to ground myself in my roots. London comes next on my travel list.

  • Have more fun! I’m a work-a-holic, so if given a choice between working and having fun I usually choose the first option. Not sure how I’m going to accomplish it, but I will try to make a conscious effort to do so. Any tips? Can you magically switch off your brain!

  • Get back to boxing. In the past I’ve taken kickboxing classes and I loved it. You can have so much fun while doing this full body sport. And its always fun to be able to hit something and not have any repercussions. Anyone know of any affordable, fun classes? Kickboxing or other!

  • Tackle at least one thing on my bucket list. Perhaps skydiving?

  • Be nicer to myself. I was recently in a meeting where I was told how valuable I am and that I am more than what I give myself credit for. Which is always nice to hear, but sometimes you just don’t believe. I feel very embarrassed when I get complimented. I can’t be the only one right?

2018 goals

What are your 2018 goals? Were you able to accomplish your 2017 goals? Let me know in the comments and on social media.

A New Years Celebration at Hershey

On a scope of 1-10 on parties I’m a 1.  I’m not nor have I ever been a huge fan of parties. I blame it on my introverted nature and my overall comfortable ability to enjoy being at home. Yes even on major occasions like New Years Eve I’ve stayed home. Although sometimes I’ve regretted not putting an effort into finding something to do. So with really no plans for this past New Years Eve I was excited when a cousin of mine suggested we go to Hershey Pennsylvania! The town that’s known for Hershey Park has much more to do than its famous amusement park, including on New Years Eve. Here’s what we did while there.

Hershey’s Chocolate World Attraction

Now if you have ever wondered how Hershey makes chocolate be sure to make your way to Hershey’s Chocolate World. The free Hershey Making Tour consist of an amusement like ride that teaches you how the chocolate is made. From cocoa bean to fully made Hershey kiss, you’ll learn so much more than you actually think goes into making Hershey’s chocolate. Be sure to grab your free Hershey kiss at the end of the ride. On New Years Eve there is a live DJ and dance floor for kids where they can dance with Hershey characters. Other options include the Chocolate Tasting Experience, 4D Chocolate Mystery, Create Your Own Candy Bar, Trolley Tour and bakery. The giant candy store can’t be missed either!

The Hershey Story, The Museum on Chocolate Avenue

If you are a history lover like I am than you must make your way to The Hershey Story. Inside is not only a museum, but a chocolate tasting experience, chocolate making experience for kids and a café. We did the chocolate tasting and museum portions which took a few hours. If you wish to experience the chocolate tasting I suggest buying your museum ticket on Groupon on which includes the tasting. Make sure to get there early as the museum is only open until 5pm and the tasting closes before that. During the tasting you are given a map and six sipping chocolates. Each is made with different chocolates from around the world, the map helps you figure out which chocolate you are tasting.

The museum is a self guided tour where you learn about Milton Hershey’s life and how he created a world-famous brand and well-known town. You’ll be inspired to go after your dreams when you learn how Milton as young man with almost nothing started the Hershey Company. An innovator and equal opportunist ahead of his time Milton introduced not only chocolate but encouraged a creative and fair workplace. So much so that the machine which wrapped Herheys Kisses was invented by employees and brothers Walter, Howard and Raymond Philippe.

His generosity continued even when former employee Harry Reese became a competitor. The two men became friends and when Reese was struggling to distribute his products Milton made an alliance with the Reese company, allowing them to use the Hershey’s distribution method. Eventually the H.B. Reese Candy Company was bought by the Hershey Chocolate Corporation. Hershey was continuously generous throughout his life, giving away his fortune to charity.

Other things to do:

Hershey Sweet Lights

Stay in your car as you drive through a festive light show.

The Kiss Drop

Watch the Giant Hershey Kiss make its way to the top as you count down to midnight in downtown Hershey. A live band plays music and vendors are out to help keep warm with hot chocolate.  Stay until the very end for a spectacular firework show.

Hershey Park

The amusement park is open during New Years Eve if rides are more up your alley.

Have you ever been to Hershey during the holidays?  What did you do for New Year’s Eve?
