New Shoes!

shoes booties, fall fashion

I’m pretty sure I’ve spoken about this before but I have a very small foot. Size five in fact! Yes that’s right FIVE! And a size three in children shoes! Yes I know you’re giggling now, but think of the price difference. Not laughing now right? When I find a pair of shoes that are my size I usually always buy them on the spot, no matter the price. Most stores don’t carry my size or carry a very limited quantity, so I am 99% sure I won’t see them again anytime soon. Yesterday during an evening trip to the mall I was looking for an inexpensive pair of flats. Ask anyone that spends a lot of time in NYC, flats are your best friend! A new pair are a bit overdue, so I was in search of a new pair. I didn’t find what I was looking for because my go to for my small foot (Payless) didn’t have anything! Don’t think Payless has fashionable options? Think again! Its not the Payless of yesteryear, and thanks to their Christian Siriano collaboration more fashionable than ever! Again small feet don’t give you a chance to discriminate anyway! Plus if you are a true fashion lover you can style a $10 anything and make it look like $1000 bucks. After an unsuccessful trip to Payless I checked out Call It Spring. I hit the shoe jackpot and bought 2 pairs of shoes!

New Booties!

I really needed a pair of bottles without a heel! The booties I currently have (fashion week pics) are super cute but killers on my feet at the end of the day! So I was so glad when I found a block heel moto inspired pair at Call It Spring. I was also shocked that they had shoes in my size, as in the past this has not always been the case. The Nunalla booties was exactly what I was looking for. Its definitely comfortable due to the block heel that gives my short stature a lift without a steep angle. I practically like the metal accent detail on the heel that elevates the all black look. It also has a mix of textures that is subtle. They are basically the perfect pair of boots made for walking! The Nunalla was originally $74.99 but I paid $22.50 thanks to the current sale!

New flats!

To my surprise Call it Spring was also where I found a pair of flats. I couldn’t find a super causal pair, but came across a semi-casual pair of flats. At first I thought they were too formal but thanks to my shopping partner in crime (mother) saw the possibilities. The small heel is covered in sequins giving it a festive feel for a semi-casual event. The satin like fabric is perfect for after work events. While a bow pulls the timeless style shoe together. These are a pair that I won’t being wearing every single day but they are definitely going to be useful. I’m still looking for a new pair that can take on the everyday work of the NYC streets. The Desarro was originally $39.99 but thanks to the current sale they were $29.98. Classic and sparkly!

I’m always in a happy place when I buy new shoes, no matter the price! Do you have a hard time finding shoes like I do? If you do, wear do you find your shoes?!

A look at Warby Parker

Warby Parker

I’m a glasses girl, I’ve been wearing them since grade school thanks to my near sided eyes. Of course at first I didn’t embrace them, as teasing was one of my priorities as a kid. Although as I grew up, I learned to like them and made them part of my personal style. Glasses can help you complete a look, just like any other accessory. The options for spectacle wearers have grown thanks to fashionable options and trendy styles. One of the companies providing fashionable and affordable options is Warby Parker. The glasses Warby Parker creates not only include the latest trends but are soft on your wallet. Unlike other glasses suppliers which include a major middle man, Warby Parker designs and creates their glasses. This process allows them to supply glasses at a lower price and connect with consumers directly. Budget friendly and fashionable, what’s not to love?

Newest Styles

In September Warby Parker launched their Fall 2017 collection of eyeglasses and various sunglasses styles. The styles and colors found in this collection were inspired by leather-bound books like the ones you might find in a college library. With a focus on color blocking and mixed materials the collection comes in classic shapes with pops of color. Scroll through to see the newest styles and some of the colors.

Home-Try-on-Program

Remember when I mentioned Warby Parkers pocket friendly capabilities? Well not only are their glasses affordable, the Home-Try-On program allows you to take their frames for a test drive. Have you ever found yourself staring at the wall of glasses at your eye doctors office when it came time to choose a pair? Well the home try on program allows you to skip the hassle by letting you try up to 5 pairs of glasses at home. The free service includes a questionnaire that learns the shape of your face whether its narrow, medium or wide. Next it learns what shape glasses you prefer which include round, rectangular, square or cate eye. Then its time to chose your color preference be it bright, neutral, black, tortoise, crystal or two-tone colors. Materials come next with the options of acetate, metal or mixed materials. Lastly tell them when your last eye exam was and your questionnaire is finished. Your results are manifested into 5 choices, that you can change or edit.

The glasses chosen for me included the rectangular Upton in the color Rosewater, Cateye Louise in Elderflower Crystal, Leighty in River Stone Blue Fade, Chelsea in Violet Magnolia and the Simone in Tea Rose Fade. I liked the selections I was given, although I changed my color options. My package arrived with the glasses neatly divided and protected. Overall the fit of the glasses was perfect. All but one that was a bit big, stayed perfectly put on the bridge of my nose. The Fall 2017 collection is not part of the Home-Try-on Program but the options are just as timeless and fashionable.

Charitable Work

Warby Parker not only makes it easy for you to chose fashionable glasses on a great budget but they also give back. Through their partnership with VisionSpring they are able to provide glasses to impoverished men and women. By doing so they are able to go to work and provide for their families. Warby Parker also conducts eye exams and provides students with glasses, many who are receiving their first pair ever. Their program Pupils Project combines their charitability with other organizations and agencies including the Department of Education in NYC and the Department of Health in Baltimore. They also align their mission with the Ver Bien organization which helps provide glasses to the children of Mexico. In total they have reached over 50 countries with over three million glasses distributed. It is estimated that 2.5 billion people around the globe need glasses but simply can’t get their hands on a pair. While 624 million of that population can’t work or concentrate on their tasks due to this problem. Through their work War by Parker is providing a solution to this global issue.

Are you a glasses wearer also? Have you tried Warby Parker before? Let me know in the comments and on social media.

New Hair! I Love It!

Vitto Mazza

If you follow me on Instagram or Facebook you’ll know I recently got my hair done. I got it cut and for the first time ever, colored! I had been wanting to get my hair colored since before New York Fashion Week, but unfortunately I was not fast enough in booking my hair stylist. I say that because she is always booked and for good reason! My hair stylist Krystal works at Vito Mazza known in 2012 for being the best Salon and Spa in the U.S. by Repackage.

I had never had my hair colored but I was ready for a lighter look and to say good-bye to my naturally dark brown/black hair. I have thick curly hair but my curls were being weighed down by the length of my hair. I was also losing hair in the shower and some days in bigger chunks than I was comfortable seeing. I take Biotin, the supplement known to help with hair growth and strength, but not regularly. So I was ready for a change that would be healthy for my hair.

Vitto Mazza

My hair before my new cut and color.

I chose my hair stylist before I chose the salon, as she is someone I went to college with. Don’t you love when you’ve kept in touch with someone who becomes successful!? I knew she would do a great job on my hair not only because I knew her, but because her social media is a resume for her work. A scroll through her Instagram alone is an album of her meticulous cut and colors. And not to mention my mom who has very short hair has become her one of her clients as well. Although my mom colors her own hair she always gets it professionally cut. She’s been getting her hair done by hair stylists since I was little, so I knew she would shoot me straight on where to go.

I was more excited for the change than nervous and had sent Krystal pictures on what I was thinking. I didn’t know what the name of the style I wanted was, thankfully she did. Turns out what I wanted was a balayage! Similar yet different from an ombre hairstyle due to the way the color is applied. The goal in this technique is to make the color transition more natural looking. Unlike an ombre hairstyle, dark hair or your natural hair color is left uncolored in the bottom half of the hair. Who Knew!

Here are the steps Krystal took to achieve my awesome new hair.

  • Dry cut my hair.

  •      She then applied Matrix Light Master, which lightens the color of your hair (the blayage).
  •      Once she applied the Matrix lightener she wrapped those sections with foil.

Vitto Mazza            Off to the dyer for 20 mins, so that the matrix could set.Vitto Mazza

  • My hair was taken out of the foils and the Matrix was rinsed out.
  • She then toned my hair with Matrix Color Sync which helps strengthen the hair fibers. It also helps get rid of unwashed color pigment while locking in the color.
  • Next Bond Ultim8 Step two was applied to my hair for ten mins. This step helps protect your hair from damage in the process of coloring.
  • Once the Bond Ultim8 was rinsed off my hair was shampooed and conditioned with Matrix Biolage Hydrasource.

Once the foils came off my hair was lighter already!

Amazing new do!

A sit under the dryer came next to lightly dry my hair.

Already loving it at this point!

She then cut my hair again, to give it a long in the front and shorter in the back style.

As I hardly straighten my hair I opted for a curly do so she styled it with Deva Curl frizz free foam,   coconut curl cream and curl boosting gel spray  .

Krystal and I. Loving my new hair!

I use Tresemme Color protect shampoo and conditioner every morning. I try not to leave my hair under hot water as I don’t want the color to be stripped quickly. Once a week I apply the Matrix Bond Ultim8 for ten minutes and rinse it out. I am currently using Shea Moisture coconut, hibiscus curl and shine leave-in conditioner for thick and curly hair when I style my hair

My amazing hairstylist Krystal is also a Matrix Artistic Educator. She not only works for Vito Mazza but does hair for special occasions like weddings and proms. Check her out and book her now, she gets booked fast!

I love my new hair! Have you ever tried a new hair style? How was your experience?

Why Start Monday

why start monday

Why do we work so hard? Why do we pursue our dreams and goals? What gives us the drive to get up each morning and push forward? Perhaps is a family we need to support or the contract you signed. Well for me  its the knowing that if I never start and hustle I will immensely disappoint myself. Yes I say myself, because I am much tougher on myself than anyone could be. For me the idea of leaving something to be done later keeps me up at night. That is why I don’t leave things for Monday!

As many of you know already I work in the fashion industry and I still find myself having to explain what that is really like. Just reading comments on social media in regards to the industry I feel I work in a fishbowl with people looking in. Many people still have many negative connotations towards people that work in this industry. Whether it is that we don’t work, are shallow or aren’t making significant impacts on important parts of society. When in fact many creative industry people are extremely hard workers that have lives full of late nights.  Do you know why? Because thin skinned people who expect to enjoy the perks of the industry without the work get chewed up and spit out. They get hit with reality real quick and they quit, I’ve seen it.

why start monday

So with the fact that I work in such a difficult industry, why the heck would I start a blog/business! I’ll tell you why. When I started the blog I was having such a hard time finding work. I started to feel like I was failing and I was losing my mind without something to do everyday. The idea of talking about an industry that I have a degree in became a no brainer to me.  So I decided to do my homework and start the blog, because why start Monday?

Starting it has been one of the best decisions ever. Although it has added more to my workload and long nights it has enriched my life in many ways. The community of bloggers, some that I have developed friendships with, has always been supportive. The readers and followers who enjoy my content with their positive feedback have also been a testament on why I didn’t wait for Monday. The relationships with  brands, companies and network of people I’ve created relationships have become priceless.

why start monday

A company that understands the urgency of starting your journey to your goals is Why Start Monday. Creator Aimee Virtucio realized that we are a society that believes Monday is the day to start tackling our goals. It is an easier decision to leave something for Monday than start immediately. She experienced this with her workout regimen when she made the decision to get healthy. She would leave her diet and workout for Monday, which allowed her time to come up with excuses and not accomplish her goals. This mentality started to affect other aspects of her life. Realizing this she started “Why Start Monday” a brand that constantly reminds you to tackle you goals and dreams.

So go ahead start that business, class, workout regime and tackle that tough industry! Just be realistic on how much hard work you are going to need to put into it. Don’t let the million nos and slammed doors stop you from pursuing your goals. In the end you don’t want to be one of those people that say “I should’ve”  instead of “I did”. Why Start Monday!

Is there something you started that you’re happy you didn’t leave for Monday? Or is there something you have been pushing off for Monday? Learn more about Why Start Monday here, which by the way gives 10% of each purchase to the Make a Wish foundation. Motivational and charitable!
